The Conviction Integrity Unit works to correct mistakes in the criminal justice system. No system is perfect. We want to find and correct instances of wrongful conviction and /or innocence. We are an arm of the prosecuting attorneys’ office, and our mission is to seek truth and justice.
Please be advised: You must carefully read and sign the consent form below before submitting this form.
By signing below, you understand that:
- The CIU is a part of the Travis County District Attorney’s Office. Our interest is in seeing that justice is done. By submitting this form, you are asking the CIU to investigate your claim of actual innocence or wrongful conviction.
- The prosecutors in the CIU at the District Attorney’s Office do not represent you and cannot offer you legal advice. A prosecutor cannot legally or ethically be your lawyer.
- No information that you give us is protected by attorney-client privilege.
- Sending this submission to the CIU WILL NOT extend any court’s legal deadlines including the statute of limitations for filing a federal petition.
- The CIU looks at every claim that we receive, however we do not perform a full investigation of every claim. Because of the volume of cases under review, the CIU cannot promise that we will be able to process your claim quickly.
