In 2023, Travis County and the City of Austin are conducting a study to better understand community members’ internet and digital device needs. We want to get advice from Travis County and City of Austin community members about the activities we are currently planning in the study, so we are hosting 2 advisory workshops in February and March 2023. We want to hear from community members who have experienced difficulties with accessing, affording, or using the internet. If you are interested in sharing your voice, please learn more and sign up for 1 of the workshops below.
What is an advisory workshop?
This will be a workshop facilitated by county and city staff, lasting approximately 2 hours. Community members will provide feedback and input on the Travis County and the City of Austin digital equity study.
When and where is it?
There is 1 virtual workshop and 1 in-person workshop. You may register for only 1 workshop and space is limited.
In-person workshop: Saturday, February 25, 2023 from 10:30 AM - 12:30 PM at the Terrazas Branch Library (1105 E Cesar Chavez St Austin, TX 78702).
Virtual workshop: Monday, March 6, 2023 from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM. A Zoom link will be provided upon registration.
What will my participation be about?
Community members will be presented details about key activities of the project, as well as the plan’s goals and values. Community members will give input and recommendations on the plan.
Examples of types of questions: “What should researchers be considering when they go door-to-door to ask questions?” “Are there any additional questions we should ask in the survey?” “How can we improve these community activities?” “What questions or concerns do you have about this project?”
Will I be compensated for my participation?
To help with participation, we are offering $50 Amazon, Walmart, or HEB gift cards for full participation of the 2 hour workshop. Gift cards will be provided by a third party and will require an email address for processing. Electronic payments via Zelle or Paypal are also available.
Travis County and City of Austin employees may participate but will not be eligible to receive compensation.
Who can I contact about this project?
Email internet@traviscountytx.gov. Due to message volume, we may not be able to respond quickly. You can also learn more by visiting www.traviscountytx.gov/bdeo.
If you are unable to attend these advisory workshops, we will be having various community conversations in the spring and summer.
