SYEP Application Guidelines
Before starting your Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) application, take time to gather the required documents and read the information below. Completing the application could take up to 30 minutes.
- Required Documents: Upload copies of both a Social Security Card AND School ID OR Recent Report Card. If you choose not to upload them now, be aware this may delay processing your application.
- Valid Email Address: Use a personal email address (e.g., Gmail or Yahoo) instead of a school email, as school email systems often block communication.
- Parent/Guardian Contact Information: Have your parent or guardian’s contact details ready to include.
- Resume or Cover Letter: Submit a resume or a cover letter. If you do not have work or volunteer experience, write a cover letter explaining why you should be selected for the SYEP.
- Program Capacity: Participation is limited, and submitting an application does not guarantee a spot.
- Interviews: All interviews will take place onsite during mandatory Job Readiness Training.
- Program Eligibility: SYEP staff will review all submitted applications to determine eligibility. If eligible, you will receive an email invitation to register for job readiness training.
- Training Requirement: Job readiness training is mandatory to be considered for program acceptance.
- Saving Application: The system does not allow saving progress. Be prepared to complete the application in one session.

SECTION 4: DISCLOSURES
Use of Name, Image, and Likeness

By participating in any event associated with the Summer Youth Employment Program, you and your parent or guardian hereby consent and agree that your name, photographic and/or video image, and voice may be used in any media, whether now known or hereafter invented, throughout the world for any purpose whatsoever, and you and your parent or guardian release the County and City from any claims related to such use.
Disclosure Statement

I understand that if I am hired, it will be at the discretion of the applicable Department Head, subject to the approval of the City Manager, as prescribed in the City Charter, or other County authority as applicable. I understand that my employment is "at will" which means that if I am hired, the City or County has no obligation to continue to employ me in the future. If I am hired, I will be subject to the City of Austin Ethics and Financial Disclosure Ordinance, Chapter 2-3 of the Code of the City of Austin, 1992, as amended. Copies of the Ordinance are available at the Human Resources Department. I certify that I have made no misrepresentation in this application, and I have not withheld information in my statements and answers to questions. I hereby authorize the City of Austin or Travis County to investigate and verify any representations made by me, either orally or in writing. I hereby release the City, County and any individual who provides or obtains information pursuant to this authorization, from any and all liability for damages of any kind which may result to me on account of compliance, or attempts to comply, with this authorization. I am also aware that my application is subject to the Texas open records law and may be released as a public document. I also understand that this application is the property of the City of Austin and Travis County and will become a part of my personnel file if I am hired.
Texas Open Records Act

Once hired, City of Austin employees are able to choose whether or not their home address, home telephone numbers, emergency contact information, social security number, and information that reveals whether they have family members are available to the public on request. The Texas Public Information Act is a State law that requires the City of Austin to disclose this information to anyone who requests it. The only exceptions are for: l) commissioned peace officers; and 2) employees who file a written request to withhold this information. Employees who are not peace officers and who do not submit such a written request will have this information made available to anyone who requests it.
